This fall, my novel, Sanctuary, will be released. It is full of dystopian tropes, including the ever present “zombie.” For research as I have been working on subsequent drafts and edits, I’ve been watching The Walking Dead. I was already a Falling Skies fan – the other TV show my book is likened to.
In the beginning episodes of TWD season 1, the writers did such a great job of characterization, and added comedy to the serious and bloody moments. I felt for the plight of the inhabitants of this dystopian world, and cared about their lives and struggles.
But as I now head into season 3, the comedy is decidedly missing, the hero is becoming his own worst enemy, and the show gets bloodier and bloodier while the characters become less and less likeable.
And I am left disappointed.
I might be in the minority, since I’ve heard others talk about how awesome season 3 has been… or maybe it’s because I’m only a little more than halfway through the season?
But part of me doesn’t even want to finish it…
Anyone feel the same? Or should I trudge on? Does it get better?
